Pop Music and the Internet

I know I say this every year, but pop music is getting dumber. Ten or twenty years ago it was at least tongue in cheek about it, like charmingly silly, with some occasionally intriguing lyrics. But nowadays it`s flagrantly flaunting its dumbness in our faces. “I don`t understaaaand anything except seeexxxx… rebranded and repackaged as this post-romantic manifestation of looooove.”

And I think I know what`s to blame. The internet. Smart people don`t buy music anymore, they`ve figured out they can just copy it from a friend (or a peer.) Even the averagely intelligent have figured out that if a song comes on the radio, you just press record and you have yourself the track. The only people left spending money on music are the people who buy it just because they`ve been constantly exposed to it. People who care more about fads than music, who have more money than sense, and zero understanding of technology. In short, stupid people. So who else are the record companies going to market to? Intellectual progression is financial suicide. Braindead ensembles of inflatable sex zombies are the only gold streaks left in that abandoned mineshaft. I don`t know how much longer we`ve got before all we have is an ocean of unbroadcastable good tunes, and a petrified crust of pornographic elevator music.

I for one am scared and confused.
